4 Squadron FAC PC-9 A21-032

By Steve Mackenzie, photos from Dick Hourigan

Over the years the 4 (originally from memory 5) airframes operated as FAC machines had an incredible array of unit designations and markings for such a small number. Way, way back (about 2 decades ago) we covered the original 76 and 77 Sqn variations in this publication, this time we have a look at how they were marked for a while when the unit was known as 4 Sqn. This is one of their variations, there were others.

These were loaned to be by Dick a fair while ago but I'm fairly certain that we did not run them at the time. The tail markings in this scheme were based on the central motive from the 4 Sqn badge (above). Otherwise the PC-9 is in the usual FAC scheme and carries the 'Middleton VC' script that was added to the nose of this airframe at one stage.
